Heritage Lottery Fund promotes local history with ‘All Our Stories’

Today sees the formal announcement of the Heritage Lottery Fund’s ‘All Our Stories’ grants, helping communities to explore and preserve their local heritage.

Over 500 groups from across the country will benefit from a share of the £4.5 million fund, which was delivered by the Heritage Lottery Fund in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), BBC Learning and Media Trust. The initiative was developed in support of The Great British Story – A People’s History, a major BBC2 series broadcast earlier in the year.

The aim of the scheme is to help communities and individuals to better understand the history of their area, with grants of between £3,000 and £10,000 given to groups of various sizes. Heritage Lottery Fund Chair Dame Jenny Abramsky explained: “We’re looking forward to hearing more about the colourful stories that emerge. They will create a unique picture of these islands at an important time in our history.”
