Young people in the time of COVID-19: A fear and hope study of 16-24 year olds
This report builds on previous research by HOPE not hate and looks specifically at how fear and hope shape the attitudes and behaviours of young people, aged 16-24 in Britain today.
The research finds that many young people are feeling alienated, distanced from a political system which they don’t feel represents them, and pessimistic about a future in the wake of a pandemic. Uncertainty, pessimism and fear can tip the balance of hope and hate.
At the same time, it finds that 16-24 year olds more optimistic than older age groups, engaged, and hopeful, and hold more progressive social attitudes than older cohorts.
