Chief Executive, Barrow Cadbury Trust
We are a dynamic, independent charitable foundation seeking a just and peaceful society which recognises the equal value of all people. Largely working in partnerships with others, we use all our resources – our money, our people and our name – to bring about structural change to increase social justice and equality.
Founded over 100 years ago, we work to create a more just and equal society, supporting partners in their work. This is an exciting time for the Trust: we have an ambitious strategic plan in place which is reviewed on an annual basis, drawing up priorities for each of our areas of work. We have a staff team that is highly capable and expert in their fields, and a committed and hard-working board.
Dame Sara Llewellin has done a great deal to establish Barrow Cadbury Trust as a thought leader in the philanthropy and civil sector, and we are now recruiting her successor. This is a rare opportunity for an inspirational leader, adept at strategic thinking and with a passion for Barrow Cadbury Trust’s vision and mission to join us and make a lasting difference.
We are keen to speak to people with a profound empathy for the values and aims of the Trust. With experience of high level leadership, the next CEO will work closely with the Chair, Board Executive Team and other staff to ensure all the organisation’s resources – our people, our skills, our money/endowment, and our reputation – are put to effective use in the vigorous pursuit of our vision, mission and values. You will be an enthusiastic advocate of the sector and its infrastructure, able to utilise strategic communication as a cornerstone approach to effective campaigning and influencing.
This is a unique opportunity. We are keen to speak with those who bring an appreciation of the complexities of creating structural change, a successful track record of developing and implementing strategy, and a history of advancing diversity, equity and inclusion, which we have a strong commitment to. We encourage applications from people with personal experience of the social justice issues we’re working on.
We are supported by our recruiting partner, Green Park in this recruitment process. To read more about this role and how to apply, please visit this microsite.

Programme Manager, Criminal Justice Programme
Barrow Cadbury Trust’s Criminal Justice programme focuses on young adults in the criminal justice system and on the intersections between racial justice, gender justice and criminal justice. The Transition to Adulthood campaign is at the heart of our criminal justice work and has led to significant improvements in the way the criminal justice system responds to young adults. We have also been engaged in significant work challenging the over-representation of racialised people involved in the system and in campaigning for a more appropriate response for women.
We are looking for someone with knowledge of criminal justice, experience of the third sector and an understanding of how to build a successful campaign for change to be our new Criminal Justice Programme Manager. Using your skills and experience you will help us to achieve our mission of improving the criminal justice system for young adults and eliminating race and gender discrimination within it.
- Hybrid working with an expectation that at least 2 days a week will be office/field-based. The Barrow Cadbury Trust office is in Vauxhall, London.
We have a strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and we encourage applications from people with personal experience of the social justice and human rights issues we seek to address. Any offer of employment will be made subject to references, confirmation of the right to work in the UK where we will need to see original documents.
