Bridging the gaps: New approaches to improving outcomes for care-experienced young people given prison sentences
Young people who have spent time in care are estimated to be 25x over-represented in the male prison system.
Between October 2019 and January 2020 Innovation Unit ran seven workshops with care experienced young people in prison and the professionals across Children’s Social Care and Justice tasked with supporting them.
Together with the young people and stakeholders in the West Midlands they co-designed a set of responses to the policy issues, underpinned by a set of design principles agreed in the workshops.
