Making the link: Female offenders and brain injury
Female offenders are some of the most vulnerable individuals within the criminal justice system. Within this already disadvantaged group, the need to proactively identify and support women who have a history of brain injury becomes evident. Despite this, awareness and treatment for brain injury is not routinely available within UK prisons, and female offenders continue to struggle.
In the first study of its kind, the Disabilities Trust provided a dedicated service to support the identification and rehabilitation of female offenders with a history of brain injury, in HMP/YOI Drake Hall.
