Cathy Pharoah

Cathy is Visiting Professor of Charity Funding at Cass Business School, and an independent research consultant.

She is an expert on funding for the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector, with experience of assessing sector finance from all sources. She also has a special interest in philanthropy, and its role in financing, partnering and shaping social change. She is currently collaborating with partners Savanta, NPC and Barclays Private Bank on innovative approaches to measuring and growing high net worth philanthropy in the UK. Other work includes research on grant-making by Muslim foundations in the UK context, a partnership with the Association of Charitable Foundations on the long-term Foundation Giving Trends series, and co-directing the ESRC-funded Centre on Charitable Giving and Philanthropy at Bayes Business School. She has carried out research for government and many charitable clients, works with funder, fundraising and donor advisor communities, and was Research Director at Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) for 11 years. She is a founder of Voluntary Sector Review, and presents widely on giving and philanthropy.
