A new Focus on Labour Exploitation (FLEX) paper ‘Access to Justice for Victims of Trafficking’ finds that victims of human trafficking or ‘modern slavery’ in the UK still experience significant barriers to accessing justice. It recommends five key measures for improving victim access to legal rights:
Making victim access to justice a priority in UK law and policy
Providing clear avenues to compensation
Ensuring potential victims have immediate and affective access to legal assistance
Providing clear and accessible immigration remedies
Providing a right to appeal or otherwise challenge negative National Referral Mechanism decisions.
